access to clean water is a basic human right

Benefits of clean drinking water :

  • Reduces the risk of waterborne diseases, such as cholera, typhoid, and dysentery. Waterborne diseases are a leading cause of illness and death in West Africa, and Ghana is no exception. Clean drinking water can help to prevent these diseases by removing harmful bacteria and parasites.
  • Improves overall health and well-being. Water is essential for all aspects of human health, including digestion, circulation, and temperature regulation. Drinking clean water can help to improve energy levels, reduce fatigue, and boost the immune system.
  • Increases energy levels and productivity. When people are dehydrated, they may experience fatigue, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating. Drinking clean water can help to improve energy levels and productivity, especially in children and adolescents.
  • Improves cognitive function and learning ability. Studies have shown that dehydration can impair cognitive function, including memory, attention, and problem-solving skills. Drinking clean water can help to improve cognitive function and learning ability in children and adults alike.
  • Reduces the risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, and cancer. Some studies have suggested that drinking clean water may help to reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and cancer. This is likely due to the fact that clean water helps to flush out toxins from the body and keep the body's organs and systems functioning properly.

Hazards of drinking contaminated water

  • Waterborne diseases can cause a variety of symptoms, including diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and abdominal cramps. In severe cases, waterborne diseases can lead to death.
  • Contaminated water can also contain harmful chemicals and toxins, which can damage the body's organs and systems. For example, exposure to lead can cause brain damage and developmental delays in children.
  • Long-term exposure to contaminated water can increase the risk of chronic diseases, such as cancer and kidney disease. For example, exposure to arsenic has been linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer.
